The young 17 year-old male individual who is alleged to have committed a burglary and theft of a laptop computer at the Eagle Pass High School campus on June 7, 2020, has self-surrendered to the Eagle Pass Police Department after his father encouraged him to turn himself in to authorities.
Eagle Pass Independent School District Superintendent Samuel Mijares stated that the district high school campus had sustained significant damages in the break-in burglary as windows had been broken, glass doors broken, sprayed graffiti in a couple of classrooms, damaged the library, and had a laptop computer stolen in the June 7 incident.
Mijares noted that the 17 year-old suspect is a student of Eagle Pass High School and the District is awaiting criminal charges to be filed against the suspect to determine what disciplinary action the district might take against the student, in addition to the criminal charges that he will have to face.
The District’s video surveillance cameras captured the June 7 break-in burglary and destruction, snatching a clear video profile of the suspect despite wearing a partial face mask to hide his identity.
Under Texas law, a 17 year-old may be charged as an adult instead of a minor and face felony criminal charges in state district court.
The case is being investigated by the Eagle Pass Police Department Detective Division and the Eagle Pass Independent School District Police Department.
