Maverick County Mourns Second COVID-19 Death in Community as Four New Positive COVID-19 Cases Confirmed, Total is 133 Cases

The City of Eagle Pass and Maverick County Emergency Operations Center Volunteer, Denise Nemeth, PA-C, sadly reported the second COVID-19 related death in Maverick County on Thursday, June 4, 2020, as well as four new confirmed positive COVID-19 cases in the community, bringing the total number of positive cases to 133.
The second COVID-19 fatality in Maverick County is a clear message to all residents that the deadly coronavirus remains present and continues to spread throughout the community. All residents are encouraged to continue practicing social distancing, wear a face mask, wash their hands regularly, use hand sanitizer, avoid gatherings of 10 or more people, and exercise common sense in protecting themselves and family.
Nemeth stated that a total of 2,704 people in Maverick County have been administered a COVID-19 test with 2,102 negative results, 133 positive results, 469 people are waiting for their test results, 42 have recovered, and two fatalities as of June 4, 2020.
Nemeth noted that a total of 89 people remain active with COVID-19 in Maverick County while 42 have recovered.
Yesterday, Maverick County Judge David R. Saucedo announced that the Eagle Pass and Maverick County Local Health Authority was going to charge two positive COVID-19 persons with a violation of the Texas Health and Safety Code, a third-degree felony, for violating their quarantine.
The State of Texas continues to steadily climb with positive COVID-19 cases as Governor Greg Abbott opens up most businesses to a 50 percent capacity in an attempt to boost the economy.
While Texas opens up its economy, the large protests happening throughout cities such as Austin, Dallas, Fort Worth, Houston, San Antonio, El Paso, and many others against police brutality, systemic racism, and in solidarity with the death of George Floyd on May 25, 2020 in Minneapolis, Minnesota concerns public heath experts of a second surge of COVID-19 cases blossoming in the state during the month of June.
As of June 3, 2020, Texas has a total of 69,920 confirmed positive COVID-19 cases with 1,767 deaths and another 1,796 people hospitalized. A total of 1,038,555 coronavirus tests have been administered in Texas as of June 3, 2020 and another 112,313 antibody tests too. Some public health experts believe that the total numbers are larger than these reported by the State of Texas due to many people dying at home and underreporting of positive cases.
Nationally, a total of 1.91 Million people have been infected with the deadly coronavirus and over 110,000 Americans have passed away due to COVID-19 as of June 3, 2020.
