Drip. Drip. Drip. The lethal coronavirus continues to infect Maverick Countians as it silently and invisibly spreads through the community.
Maverick County Judge David R. Saucedo reported at the joint press conference of the City of Eagle Pass and Maverick County held on Friday, June 19, 2020 that the Texas Department of State Health Services announced nine new confirmed positive COVID-19 cases in Maverick County, raising the total number to 223 cases.
County Judge Saucedo stated that Maverick County citizens have had a high participation rate on having the COVID-19 test administered as 4.557 tests are reported as of June 19 with a total of 3,879 negative results, 223 positive results, 455 waiting test results, 66 recovered, 155 active cases, two fatalities, and one hospitalized.
In light of the rapidly rising number of confirmed positive COVID-19 cases in Maverick County, County Judge Saucedo announced that he had approved a new Emergency Order on June 19, 2020, establishing that all local businesses require patrons to wear face masks while inside their business or store pursuant to authority granted under the Texas Health and Safety Code. Local businesses will have five days to prepare and implement this new legal requirement concerning the mandatory use of face masks by customers.
Saucedo noted that this new Maverick County Executive Order is same as the one that Bexar County Judge Nelson Wolff (San Antonio) approved earlier this week as a public health emergency to restrict the rising community spread of COVID-19 cases. Texas is currently reporting a rapidly rising surge of COVID-19 cases with daily high record numbers of positive cases for the past nine days and total number of people with COVID-19 hospitalizations.
Texas recorded a total of 3,454 positive COVID-19 cases on June 19, 35 fatalities, and a record 3,148 people hospitalized with COVID-19. Texas has a total of 103,305 positive COVID-19 cases, 2,140 fatalities due to COVID-19, 1,423,914 (Million) people have been administered the coronavirus test and another 153,011 have had an antibody test administered as of June 19, 2020, according to the Texas Department of State Health Services.
Nationally, 21 states are experiencing sudden increases of positive COVID-19 cases in the south, southwest, and western United States. Many of the surging states are imposing use of face masks and other measures to slow down the spread of the deadly COVID-19 virus.
United States reports at least 2,233,200 (Million) positive COVID-19 cases and over 119,168 fatalities among Americans as of June 18, 2020.
One of the surging states is Oklahoma and the City of Tulsa where President Trump is holding his first political campaign rally since the coronavirus pandemic on June 20 at Bok Arena with 19,000 people expected to attend without social distancing measures, raising public health experts concerns that this political rally might become a super spreader of the deadly COVID-19 virus as people from all over the United States are scheduled to attend.
American public health experts predict that over 200,000 Americans will have died from COVID-19 by October 1, 2020 if current trends continue, just a month before the national election on November 3.
