Major League Baseball-Major League Baseball Players Association Youth Development Foundation Awards Nearly $50,000 to the City of Eagle Pass
(Press Release) Eagle Pass, TX – The City of Eagle Pass has been awarded nearly $50,000 by the MLB-MLBPA – Youth Development Foundation for the funding of the City of Eagle Pass Pee Wee Field Lighting Project. The project will replace and install new lighting at the Pee Wee Baseball Field. The current lighting is over 30 years old.
The City of Eagle Pass created the Loving Hearts League for life skills and special needs participants. The league, the first of its kind in the area, has received a tremendous amount of support from the local community.
The Youth Development Foundation (the “Foundation”) is a joint initiative between Major League Baseball and the Major League Baseball Players Association. It was created to increase participation in and expand access to youth baseball and softball. The Foundation offers grants to organizations in the United States and internationally. The Foundation accepts applications throughout the year and grant decisions are made by its Board of Directors on a quarterly basis.
“The grant funds awarded by the MLB-MLBPA Youth Development Foundation is vital in providing adequate lighting at our Pee Wee Baseball Field for the safety of our youth in our community that includes our Loving Hearts League,” said Luis E. Sifuentes, Mayor for the City of Eagle Pass. “Additionally, this will allow for us to provide a safe playing environment and serve more youth in our community by expanding our leagues.”
“It is our pleasure to award the City of Eagle Pass a grant towards the installment of new light fixtures at the Pee Wee Baseball Field,” said Jean Batrus, Executive Director of the MLB-MLBPA Youth Development Foundation. “With this addition, we hope Pee Wee Baseball continues to provide safe playing conditions for local youth baseball and softball players.”
The City of Eagle Pass expects to complete this project by the Fall baseball season.
