Due to the Fourth of July national holiday, Maverick County registered voters will get a Special Election Day for Early Voting on Sunday, July 5, 2020 from 12 Noon to 5 P.M. at the City of Eagle Pass Multi-Purpose Center, located at 480 South Adams Street, in Eagle Pass, Texas, announced Juanita V. Martinez, Maverick County Democratic Party Chairperson.
Martinez stated that local voters were unable to cast ballots on Friday, July 3, and Saturday, July 4, in the Early Voting Period of the Primary Run-Off Election because of the national Independence Day holiday.
However, local candidates requested a special Election Day for Sunday, July 5, to make up for the lost two days of voting during the Early Voting Period and the petition was granted, opening the opportunity for Maverick County voters to be able to go cast their ballots at the Multi-Purpose Early Voting Site on Sunday, July 5, 2020 from 12 Noon to 5 P.M.
Martinez reminded voters that there are very important races in the Democratic Party such as for the United States Senate between Royce West and Mary “MJ” Hegar, the Texas Senate District 19 race between Xochil Pena Rodriguez and Roland Gutierrez, the Railroad Commission of Texas race between Roberto “Beto” Alonzo and Chrysta Castaneda, and three Maverick County Constable races including Precinct No. 1 between Rudy Valdez and Oscar “Ram” Ramos, Precinct No. 2 between Alberto De La Torre and Denise Cantu, and Precinct No. 4 between Joe “Mike” Beattie and Hector “Big Rod” Rodriguez.
Martinez encourages all Maverick County registered voters to come out on Sunday, July 5, 2020 from 12 Noon to 5 P.M. at the Eagle Pass Multi-Purpose Center to cast their vote in these important races in the Democratic Party Primary Run-Off Election.
In the Texas Republican Party, there is only one key race on the ballot for the U.S. House of Representatives District 23 between Tony Gonzales and Raul Reyes with the winner to face Democratic Party nominee Gina Ortiz Jones in the November 3, 2020 General Election. Incumbent U.S. House of Representative Will Hurd decided not to seek re-election.
Martinez noted that Maverick County registered voters with physical handicap or vulnerable medical conditions may request to vote curbside and will be assisted by election officials in casting their ballot.
Early Voting only has a week remaining from July 5 through July 10 and the regular Election Day is on Tuesday, July 14, 2020, at designated Maverick County Precinct Polling Places. Voting only takes 5 to 10 minutes, but the impact of a vote can last four to six years depending on the length of term for each specific race. Your vote is your voice.
