More than 30,000 registered voters in Maverick County have two remaining days to cast their ballots in the current Texas Primary Run-Off Election on Thursday, July 9, and Friday, July10, 2020, at the City of Eagle Pass Multi-Purpose Center, 480 South Adams Street, in Eagle Pass, Texas from 8 A.M. to 5 P.M. before the regular Election Day of July 14, 2020, announced Juanita V. Martinez, Maverick County Democratic Party Chairperson.
Martinez encourages all registered voters to come out to vote and make a difference in the six contested Democratic Party races on the Primary Run-Off Election and those in the Republican Party too.
Martinez highlighted the extreme sanitary measures implemented by the Maverick County Elections Office under the leadership of Roy Schmerber, Election Administrator, for the Early Voting at the Multi-Purpose Center. For instance, voters entering the Multi-Purpose Center are asked to wear a face mask and walk through a disinfecting mist tunnel at the entrance, the election clerks all have a plastic shield in front of them to prevent contact with the voter, all of the pencils and pens are disinfected, and voters who wish to vote in their vehicle due to their age or pre-existing medical disability or condition may vote in their vehicles outside in the parking lot with the assistance of election clerks. The Multi-Purpose Center is regularly cleaned and disinfected by City of Eagle Pass maintenance personnel. The voter’s health and safety is protected by these sanitary measures.
As of Wednesday, July 8, 2020, only 1,852 voters have cast their ballots during the Early Voting period with two remaining days, Thursday, July 9, and Friday, July 10.
Martinez noted there are six important races in the Democratic Party ballot, including the United States Senate between State Senator Royce West and Mary “MJ” Hegar, Railroad Commission of Texas between Roberto “Beto” Alonzo and Chrysta Castaneda, Texas Senate District 19 between Xochil Pena Rodriguez and Roland Gutierrez, Maverick County Constable Precinct No. 1 between Rudy Valdez and Oscar Ramos, Maverick County Constable Precinct No. 2 between Alberto “Beto” De La Torre and Denise Cantu, and Maverick County Constable Precinct No. 4 between Joe “Mike” Beattie and Hector “Big Rod” Rodriguez.
Early voting only takes 5 to 10 minutes of your time. Come on out to vote and bring your spouse, adult children, parents, grandparents, brothers and sisters, aunts and uncles, friends, and co-workers. Get it done!
