Maverick County Democratic Party Chairperson Juanita V. Martinez announced that challenger Oscar “Ram” Ramos was declared the winner of the Maverick County Constable Precinct No. 1 in the July 14, 2020 Primary Run-Off Election over incumbent Rudy Valdez after a recount of the votes held on Thursday, July 30, 2020.
Oscar “Ram” Ramos garnered a total of 653 votes compared to Rudy Valdez’s 626 votes, a clear victory by 27 votes, according to the recount results.
In the March 3, 2020 Primary Election, Rudy Valdez was top vote getter with 1,008 votes (40.81%) but did not obtain a 50.1 majority compared to Oscar “Ram” Ramos’ 825 votes (33.40% and third candidate, Jose “Coche” Duran, received 637 votes (25.79%), forcing a run-off between Valdez and Ramos.
Ramos’ win in the July 14 Primary Run-Off Election is considered an upset of Valdez who was the incumbent going into the Primary.
Ramos will now represent the Democratic Party in the November 3, 2020 General Election. Since there is not a Republican Party candidate or any other party candidate, Ramos will more than likely cruise to victory in the November 3 General Election and be sworn-in as Constable Precinct No. 1 on January 1, 2021 absent any unforeseen circumstances.
Valdez will continue serving as Constable Precinct No. 1 until December 31, 2020.
