The Maverick County Democratic Party held a recount on Friday, July 24, 2020 of the Maverick County Constable Precinct No. 2 election results in the July 14, 2020 Primary Run-Off at the request of candidate Denise Cantu, who lost by 89 votes to Alberto De La Torre, resulting in only gaining one vote than the original results, announced Juanita V. Martinez, Maverick County Democratic Party Chairperson.
After conducting the recount on July 24, the final results tabulated are 659 votes for Alberto De La Torre compared to Denise Cantu’s 571 votes, a gain of only one vote by Cantu while De La Torre remained the same.
De La Torre wins the Democratic Party’s nomination for the Maverick County Constable Precinct No. 2 race for the November 3, 2020 General Election. Since there are no Republican Party or any other party candidate in the race, De La Torre will in all likelihood cruise to victory in November and be sworn-in as the new Precinct No. 2 Constable on January 1, 2021, absent any unforeseen circumstances.
There is a possibility that Maverick County Constable Precinct No. 1 incumbent Rudy Valdez, who lost to Oscar “Ram” Ramos by only 28 votes in the Primary Run-Off, may request a recount of the election results on or before Monday, July 27, 2020. Valdez has until July 27 to request a recount with the Democratic Party.
In the event Valdez does not request a recount, Oscar “Ram” Ramos will proceed to be the Democratic Party nominee in the November 3 election. At the moment, there are no Republican or other Party candidate in the Maverick County Constable Precinct No. 1 race.
