City of Eagle Pass Awarded Nearly $50,000 Grant from FEMA Assistance to Firefighter’s Coronavirus Supplemental Grant
(Press Release) The City of Eagle Pass is excited to announce they have been awarded a grant from FEMA – Assistance to Firefighter’s for the Coronavirus Supplemental Funding Grant in the amount of $46,657.85.
The purpose of this grant is to provide supplemental assistance directly to eligible fire departments for critical personal protective equipment (PPE) and supplies needed to prevent, prepare for, and respond to the COVID-19 public health emergency. The funds will be utilized to cover expenses for critically needed resources such as masks, medical gowns and non-contact digital thermometers that equip personnel to respond to the COVID-19 public health emergency and support community resilience.
“We are grateful to FEMA and our federal government for assisting our firefighters with these additional resources to help keep our firefighters safe as they put themselves on the frontline assisting our residents who are in need of medical assistance and fire rescue” said Mayor Luis E. Sifuentes.
City Manager George Antuna and Fire Chief Manuel Mello echoed Mayor Sifuentes’ comments by saying they were pleased to learn of the additional funding and that PPE is critical to keep our citizens and community safe as we work through the challenges of this pandemic.
