Elias Diaz and Elizabeth Chisum De La Garza Battle for Eagle Pass Council Place 2 Run-Off Election, Early Voting Runs August 19-September 1 and Regular Election Day is September 5

City of Eagle Pass, Texas registered voters will go to the polls to cast ballots for the City Council Place 2 seat in the upcoming Run-Off Election between Elias Diaz and Elizabeth Chisum De La Garza with Early Voting commencing on August 19 and continuing through September 1 and regular Election Day on Saturday, September 5, 2020 at the Multi-Purpose Center, located at 480 South Adams Street, in Eagle Pass.
In the initial February 1, 2020 Election, three candidates competed for the coveted City Council Place 2 seat with Elias Diaz garnering the most votes with 1,804 votes (42.8%) compared to Elizabeth Chisum De La Garza’s 1,766 votes (41.76%) votes and Frank “Franky” Sanchez’s 639 votes (15.18%).
Since neither candidate received a majority vote of 50.1%, a run-off election between the two top vote getters, Elias Diaz and Elizabeth Chisum De La Garza, was scheduled for May 5, 2020, but due to the COVID-19 pandemic was rescheduled for September 5, 2020.
Early Voting will start on Wednesday, August 19, 2020 and continue through Tuesday, September 1, 2020 from 8 A.M. to 5 P.M. at the Eagle Pass Multi-Purpose Center and regular Election Day will be held on Saturday, September 5, 2020 from 7 A.M. to 7 P.M. at the Multi-Purpose Center.
The winner of the run-off election will replace longtime City Councilman Rudy Villalpando who ran for Mayor in the February 1, 2020 City Election, but fell to City Councilman Luis E. Sifuentes.
All City of Eagle Pass registered voters are encouraged to come out and cast their ballots for the candidate of their choice.
The City of Eagle Pass will provide sanitary preventative measures against COVID-19 at the Multi-Purpose Center to protect the health and safety of all voters exercising their right to vote.
