The Eagle Pass Independent School District (EPISD) COVID-19 Report required by new Texas state law reports one student and one staff member having tested positive for COVID-19 during the week of September 14-20, 2020.
The EPISD COVID-19 Report shows one student in the Early Education to Third Grade Category and one staff member tested positive for coronavirus during the week of September 14-20. According to the EPISD COVID-19 Report, both the student and staff member became infected with the coronavirus off-campus.
The EPISD COVID-19 Report also shows a cumulative total of four students and 11 staff members having tested positive for coronavirus for the period from July 27 through September 20, 2020. Three of the four students are from the Early Education to Third Grade Category and the fourth is from the 7th Grade to 12 Grade Category. The EPISD COVID-19 Report adds that eight persons were infected off-campus, none on-campus, and seven at unknown locations.
The EPISD COVID-19 Report does not state the number of fatalities from COVID-19, but an earlier public records request from the Eagle Pass Business Journal to the EPISD reported two fatalities and a cumulative total of 41 infected persons from March 1 through August 18, 2020 within the school district.
EPISD Superintendent Samuel Mijares stated that the district is following all the CDC Guidelines, State of Texas, and local county and city COVID-19 preventative measures to provide a safe learning and working environment for the students and staff members.
