Elias Diaz Sworn-In as Eagle Pass City Council Place 2 Council Member on September 9, 2020

The City of Eagle Pass, Texas City Council held a special meeting on Wednesday, September 9, 2020 to approve the canvassing of the September 5 City Council Place 2 Run-Off Election results and to officially swear-in newly-elected City Council Member Elias Diaz.
The Eagle Pass City Council unanimously approved the September 5, 2020 City Council Place 2 Run-Off Election results with Elias Diaz receiving 1,837 votes compared to Elizabeth Chisum De La Garza’s 1,320 votes.
Outgoing City Council Place 2 Council Member Rudy Villalpando was recognized for his 18 years of dedicated service (1980-1988, 2010-2020) to the citizens of Eagle Pass and was presented with several gifts and a plaque in appreciation by the City Council.
Mayor Luis E. Sifuentes thanked and congratulated outgoing Council Member Rudy Villalpando on his 18 years of public service to the City of Eagle Pass and its citizens. Sifuentes noted that he considered Villalpando as a “mentor” on the City Council and that they worked on many projects together under Mayors Chad Foster and Ramsey English Cantu. Sifuentes added that Villalpando’s mission was to improve the quality of life for the citizens of Eagle Pass during his tenure as a City Council member.
Council Member Rudy Villalpando, accompanied by his wife, Elsa, stated he thanked his wife and the citizens of Eagle Pass for allowing him to serve them for 18 years on the City Council.
Newly-elected City Council Member Elias Diaz, accompanied by his partner Elishoel Reyes and his parents, was administered the Oath of Office and sworn-in by City Secretary Imelda Rodriguez.
Diaz thanked all of his supporters and the citizens of Eagle Pass who voted for him in the Run-Off election and promised to represent all of the citizens, including those who did not vote for him, in bringing change to the community. Diaz noted that his election is a win for all of the citizens of Eagle Pass and he looked forward to representing every Eagle Passan in the City Council.
After being sworn-in, Diaz took the dais of the City Council and proceeded to attend his first City Council meeting.
Mayor Sifuentes motioned to re-appoint Council Member William “Billy” Davis as Mayor Pro-Tem and the motion was seconded and approved unanimously. After the re-appointment of Council Member Davis as Mayor-Pro-Tem, the City Council adjourned.
Diaz received well wishes from outgoing City Council Member Rudy Villalpando and his wife, Elsa, as well as from all members of the City Council and members of the City Administration in attendance at the meeting.
