The silent and invisible novel coronavirus continues to strike Maverick County citizens and take some of their lives as local officials regrettably announced that another 14 people died due to COVID-19 and 36 new confirmed positive cases on Thursday, September 10, 2020, bringing the cumulative total to 114 deaths and 3,535 cases.
During the second week of September 4-11, 2020, with one day of reporting remaining, a total of 19 beloved Maverick County citizens and 96 new confirmed positive COVID-19 cases were reported by the Eagle Pass and Maverick County Emergency Operations Center as of September 10.
Eagle Pass Assistant Fire Chief and Maverick County Emergency Operations Center Rodolfo “Woody” Cardona solemnly announced the additional 14 local citizens who succumbed to the deadly coronavirus at San Antonio, Texas hospitals and Fort Duncan Regional Medical Center in Eagle Pass. Cardona noted that 11 of the 14 deceased passed away during the month of August 2020 at San Antonio hospitals and three locally, but that the Emergency Operations Center had just received their paperwork. With these 14 additional deaths, the total for the week of September 4-11 rises to 19 and 114 overall since the COVID-19 pandemic started.
Cardona reported on September 10, 2020 that a total of 17,079 people in Maverick County have had a COVID-19 test administered with 3,535 positive results, 13,234 positive results, 3,038 recovered people, 310 pending results, 383 active cases, 30 currently hospitalized patients locally, and the positivity rate is at a high 21%.
COVID-19’s affliction on Maverick County citizens has been devastating and disheartening as at least 114 people have died from the lethal coronavirus to date and 3,535 people have been confirmed to have been infected with the virus. COVID-19’s impact has been disruptive and earth-shattering by turning upside down all of the norms known to human beings and crashing the economy, public health, education, and daily life.
To add insult to injury, Americans woke up on September 9, 2020 to learn that President Donald J. Trump knew that COVID-19 was “deadly”, spreads “airborne”, and is at least “five times deadlier”than the ordinary flu since January 2020, but chose to intentionally downplay the severity of the coronavirus to 330 Million Americans according to audio-taped interviews with Washington Post and Pulitzer Prize Winner Investigative Reporter Bob Woodard for a book titled “Rage” to be published in the immediate future.
Bob Woodard’s revelations regarding President Trump’s knowledge of the lethality of the coronavirus and his intentional withholding of this information has caused an outrage among Americans, suggesting that Trump intentionally lied and misled the public by downplaying the coronavirus and telling Americans that it was a “hoax” in order to avoid a “panic” and to affect his re-election campaign on November 3, 2020. Many Americans are demanding that President Trump should immediately resign for causing tens of thousands of Americans dying from COVID-19.
Nationally, there are a total of 191,628 deaths due to COVID-19 and 6,416,700 confirmed positive COVID-19 people in the United States as of September 10, 2020, according to the New York Times.
Texas has reported a total of 13,853 deaths due to COVID-19 and 649,809 confirmed positive COVID-19 cases also of September September 10, 2020, according to the Texas Department of State Health Services.
