Border Patrol Agents Rescue Young Siblings From Rio Grande River
EAGLE PASS, Texas – U.S. Border Patrol agents assigned to the Eagle Pass Station rescued two minors from the Rio Grande River, October 21, 2020.
“It is becoming far too common that parents place their children in the hands of smugglers who time and again show callous disregard for human life,” said Del Rio Sector Chief Patrol Agent Austin L. Skero II. “Thankfully our agents were able to quickly locate these two small children and bring them to safety.”
Just after midnight, agents responded to a distress call concerning two minors, stranded near the Eagle Pass International Railroad Bridge. Agents quickly located and rescued the two from and island in the middle of the Rio Grande River. The two Honduran national minors, a 9-year-old girl and 13-year-old boy, brother and sister, appeared to be in good health and were not injured. They were transported to the Eagle Pass Centralized Processing Center where they were medically screened by medical staff and processed.
Both children will be processed per CBP guidelines.
