Five more Maverick County citizens died from COVID-19 and 27 new confirmed positive COVID-19 cases were announced by Eagle Pass Mayor Luis E. Sifuentes on Monday, October 5, 2020, during the joint City of Eagle Pass and Maverick County Emergency Operations Center COVID-19 Report, bringing the cumulative total to 133 deaths related to COVID-19 and 3,829 confirmed positive COVID-19 cases in Maverick County.
Mayor Sifuentes stated that a total of 19,728 people in Maverick County have had a COVID-19 test administered with 3,829 positive results, 15,802 negative results, 97 pending results, 302 active cases, 3,394 recovered people, 133 fatalities due to COVID-19, 17 people hospitalized locally due to COVID-19, and a positivity rate of 19.5%, which is extremely high.
Maverick County has decreased the number of COVID-19 testing since mid-August 2020 with obviously less people testing positive for the deadly COVID-19 virus within the border county. This “Out of Sight, Out of Mind” decreased COVID-19 testing strategy has been handed down by the Trump White House to each state and the states to each county as a political strategy to assist Trump’s re-election bid.
But the October 5th announcement of five additional beloved local citizens dying from COVID-19 is a stark reminder to all Maverick County residents that COVID-19 is alive and thriving within the community and everyone needs to follow the CDC Guidelines of wearing a face mask, washing hands with soap regularly, use hand sanitizer regularly, avoid gatherings of 10 or more people, limit travel to essential matters, and stay home.
The five additional deaths means that there have been at least 133 confirmed deaths in Maverick County due to COVID-19 since the virus started in the community in March 2020.
Unfortunately, Maverick County citizens do not have the privilege of receiving the best medical care and treatment in the world for COVID-19 like President Donald J. Trump received at the Walter Reed Hospital in Washington, D.C.
Nationally, the United States reported 426 deaths due to COVID-19 and 42,223 new confirmed positive COVID-19 cases on Monday, October 5, 2020, bringing the cumulative total to 210,000 deaths and 7,486,900 cases.
Texas reported eight (8) new deaths due to COVID-19 and 2,192 new confirmed positive COVID-19 cases on Monday, October 5, 2020, bringing the cumulative total to 16,033 deaths and 769,303 cases. Texas is among the top states with the most number of total COVID-19 deaths and cases.
The lack of leadership at the national and state levels has led to a significant increase of unnecessary COVID-19 deaths and new cases across the United States. With less than 30 days remaining before the November 3, 2020 Presidential election and even after being infected with COVID-19, President Donald J. Trump has failed to establish a national strategic plan to slow or stop the deadly COVID-19 virus in the United States.
Early voting for the November 3rd election starts in one week in the State of Texas on Tuesday, October 13, 2020 at designated polling places throughout each county. In Maverick County, the Early Voting designated polling place is the City of Eagle Pass Multi-Purpose Center, located at 480 South Adams Street, in downtown Eagle Pass. All Maverick County registered voters are encouraged to exercise their right to vote and cast their ballot for the candidates of their choice.
