Eagle Pass Independent School District Superintendent Samuel Mijares announced on Tuesday, October 6, 2020, that two students and one teacher within the same classroom tested positive for COVID-19 at Liberty Elementary School in Eagle Pass, Texas.
Mijares reported that the students and teacher were quarantined while the local school district sent its Rapid Disinfection Team to do a thorough disinfection of the classroom and school.
Mijares noted that the school district does not know whether a student or the teacher infected the others within the same classroom. But what is clear is that a total of three persons tested positive for COVID-19 within the classroom.
The Eagle Pass Independent School District issued a letter to all parents, students, teachers, and staff at Liberty Elementary notifying them of the situation.
Mijares noted that Liberty Elementary currently has approximately 40 to 50 students receiving in-person instruction at the campus while the rest of its students are enrolled through remote instruction.
Mijares urged all parents, students, teachers, and staff to observe and follow the CDC Guidelines of wearing a face mask, wash hands with soap regularly, use hand sanitizer regularly, practice social distancing of at least six feet, and avoid gatherings.
