293rd Judicial District Attorney Roberto Serna announced on Wednesday, December 30, 2020, that he has “decided to keep Mr. Jaime Ariel “AJ” Iracheta on his staff as an Assistant District Attorney at a reduced salary so that he may serve as Maverick County Attorney.”
Iracheta was elected as the Democratic Party nominee for Maverick County Attorney in the March 3, 2020 Texas Primary Election and elected to the post in the November 3, 2020 Texas General Election without any Republican or Independent candidate running against him or opposition.
Iracheta is scheduled to be sworn-in and take office as Maverick County Attorney on January 1, 2021 for a four year term as elected by the voters of Maverick County in the November 3rd General Election.
Prior to his election as Maverick County Attorney, Iracheta was hired as an Assistant District Attorney in March of 2020 by District Attorney Roberto Serna. Iracheta will serve as both Maverick County Attorney and as an Assistant District Attorney effective January 1, 2021.
District Attorney Roberto Serna stated “I have researched the matter and have determined there is no conflict for Mr. Iracheta to serve as the County Attorney and as an Assistant District Attorney.”
Serna added that “Mr. Iracheta and I will continue to accomplish the constitutional and statutory duties required of both of our offices and continue to uphold the law, improve our community, and ultimately fight crime.”
