The South Texas Blood and Tissue Center is hosting a convalescent plasma drive from recovered COVID-19 people to help critically-ill patients currently fighting COVID-19 in hospitals on Saturday, December 12, 2020, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the City of Eagle Pass International Center for Trade, 3295 Bob Rogers Drive, Eagle Pass, Texas, said Denise Nemeth, P.A., of the Maverick County Hospital District.
As COVID-19 cases surge in Texas, individuals who have recovered from COVID-19 in the Eagle Pass community are encouraged to donate convalescent plasma to help critically-ill patients fighting the coronavirus.
Convalescent plasma is the liquid part of the bloodstream that contains the antibodies the body produces to fight infections. This is transfused into seriously-ill patients in order to pass along the antibodies and potentially help them recover from COVID-19. Qualified convalescent plasma donors will receive a $50 Visa gift card.
The requirements for people to donate convalescent plasma include people who have recovered from COVID-19, must not have had symptoms for 14 days, symptoms began later than 45 days prior to donation, meet regular blood donation guidelines, and have had a positive COVID-19 test result.
All donors must first make an appointment to donate online at: COVID19@SouthTexasBlood.org or call by telephone at (210) 731-2719.
