Eagle Pass business woman Elsa Villalpando announced her intention to register as a candidate for the Eagle Pass City Council Place 4 seat in the upcoming City Officers Election to be held on May 1, 2021 at a press conference held at her residence on Wednesday, January 6, 2021.
Villalpando was accompanied by her husband, former City Councilman Rudy Villalpando, and family members at her announcement.
Villalpando stated that she has many ideas to share with the citizens of Eagle Pass concerning the governance and administration of the City of Eagle Pass and that she will be seeking the City Council Place 4 post in the May 1, 2021 election.
Villalpando cited her experience as a small business woman, educator, community volunteer, mother, wife, grandmother, and taxpayer has prepared her for a leadership role in the City of Eagle Pass City Council.
Villalpando noted that she plans to officially register on or after January 13, 2021 once the candidate registration period opens up for the May 1st election.
Currently, City Council Place 4 is held by local attorney Rolando Salinas who won the position in a special City Officers Election held on February 1, 2020 for an unexpired term. Salinas has earlier announced that he plans to register for the position of Mayor in the May 1st election, challenging incumbent Mayor Luis E. Sifuentes.
The May 1, 2021 City of Eagle Pass City Officers Election will be for three positions on the City Council, including Mayor and City Council Places 2 and 4.
