Eagle Pass City Councilman Rolando Salinas Registers as a Candidate for Mayor

Eagle Pass City Councilman Place 4 Rolando Salinas announced his candidacy for Mayor in the upcoming City Officers Election on May 1, 2021 at a press conference celebrated on Wednesday, January 13, 2021 at City Council Chambers of City Hall in Eagle Pass, Texas.
Councilman Salinas officially registered as a candidate for Mayor with City Secretary Imelda B. Rodriguez on January 13 at City Hall. Salinas was joined by his wife, Marissa, and family members at the registration.
Councilman Salinas was elected for the unexpired term of City Council Place 4 at the City of Eagle Pass Special Officers Election held on February 1, 2020 and has served on the City Council since his swearing-in shortly thereafter.
During his 11 months on City Council, Councilman Salinas has gained invaluable experience and insight on the salient public issues facing the citizens of Eagle Pass as well as the COVID-19 pandemic. Salinas stated that he “believes that he can provide the necessary leadership so that Eagle Pass can prosper.” Salinas added that if elected, he “will make sound and fair decisions for all the citizens of Eagle Pass, not just for a select group.”
Councilman Salinas noted that he pledges to work with all members of the City Council in developing policies and programs to address the public issues facing the Citizens of Eagle Pass and to ensure that the community enjoys economic development and increased international trade. He also added that he looks forward to working with all healthcare providers in addressing the deadly COVID-19 virus and how to avoid or slow the community spread of the virus, including Fort Duncan Regional Medical Center, Maverick County Hospital District, United Medical Centers, Eagle Pass Independent School District, Eagle Pass Fire Department, Texas Department of State Health Services, and private medical providers.
Councilman Salinas stated that he has personally witnessed the “resiliency” of the community during his tenure on the City Council, particularly the Eagle Pass Police Department, Eagle Pass Fire Department, Public Works Department, healthcare providers, and the citizens of Eagle Pass. Salinas credited all residents of Eagle Pass for their extraordinary resiliency during the COVID-19 pandemic. He applauded the heroic efforts of all healthcare and medical providers, frontline and essential workers, teachers, and citizens during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Councilman Salinas vowed to listen to all the citizens of Eagle Pass and knowledgeable people in developing policies and programs to improve the quality of life, economic development, and infrastructure of the community. Salinas noted the City of Eagle Pass currently has high unemployment with 14 to 16 percent of its citizens unemployed, requiring new businesses and industries be attracted to provide good paying jobs for Eagle Passans.
Councilman Salinas stated he supports the expansion of International Bridge No. 2 in order to handle greater commercial traffic and international trade in our community, thus generating new jobs and revenues in the city. According to private industry, the City of Eagle Pass is expected to triple the flow of commercial traffic and international trade in the near future, requiring that International Bridge No. 2 be expanded to accommodate this increased trade, said Salinas.
Councilman Salinas stated that he is running as an independent candidate for Mayor and “no one is pulling my strings,” vowing to provide opportunities for all citizens of Eagle Pass. Salinas noted that his experience as an attorney and having worked at a local law firm has provided him with leadership and character to handle the key issues facing the City of Eagle Pass and its citizens. He looks forward to working with all members of the City Council, public governmental entities, and business leaders in developing a more prosperous economy and community.
Councilman Salinas concluded requesting the support and vote of all registered voters of Eagle Pass in electing him as Mayor in the forthcoming May 1st City Officers Election.
