With Maverick County experiencing a public health emergency due to the community spread of COVID-19, Maverick County Hospital District Chief Executive Officer Alma Martinez announced that starting on Tuesday, January 26, 2021 the local hospital district was starting a mobile COVID-19 testing program at people’s homes during the mornings and community testing at different Colonias during the afternoons.
Martinez added that this new mobile COVID-19 testing outreach program is being done by the District in collaboration with Clinical Pathology Laboratories (CPL). The COVID-19 tests will be the PCR antigen COVID-19 test and CPL will process the tests and promptly provide the test results to participants.
Martinez noted that many residents of Maverick County, particularly indigent and low-income people, do not have the means to attend one of the local COVID-19 testing centers and require that they have the test done at their homes. The local hospital district will now be traveling to people’s homes throughout the Colonias in Maverick County to give them the COVID-19 test and quickly give them their test results through CPL.
Martinez added that the mobile testing unit will be fully-staffed by District healthcare workers and will do on-site testing at people’s homes during the mornings and in the afternoons will be stationed at a Colonia for those who can travel to the mobile unit for the test. No appointments are necessary to obtain the COVID-19 test. A schedule of the mobile COVID-19 unit is being published by the District for the convenience of all county residents.
Martinez stated that the District will continue to provide COVID-19 testing at its headquarters located at 3406 Bob Rogers Drive in Eagle Pass, Texas in addition to the mobile COVID-19 testing outreach program.
The purpose is to provide all residents of Maverick County the opportunity to get their COVID-19 tests done, particularly the indigent and low-income residents in the community.
