Maverick County Sheriff Tom Schmerber announced that Sheriff Deputies responded to a telephone call from a concerned citizen regarding suspicious activities at a residential home located at 603 Las Brisas Street in Las Brisas Subdivision near Eagle Pass, Texas and found 42 undocumented immigrants lying down inside the stash house on Tuesday, February 2, 2021.
Maverick County Sheriff Deputies called the U.S. Border Patrol to the stash house in Las Brisas Subdivision and all 42 undocumented immigrants were detained for illegal entry into the United States by the U.S. Border Patrol.
Sheriff Schmerber noted the large number of undocumented immigrants, 42, that were found inside the stash house in southern Maverick County is an indicator of the increased flow of migrants traversing through Maverick County from Mexico and other countries.
Sheriff Schmerber noted that any person providing housing, food and water, or transportation to undocumented immigrants may be charged by federal law enforcement for conspiracy to transport undocumented immigrants or harboring and aiding undocumented immigrants and face stiff penalties and possible imprisonment if found guilty.
Sheriff Schmerber encouraged all Maverick County residents to report any suspicious activities to the Maverick County Sheriff’s Department at 911 or (830) 773-2321.
