Head-On Auto Collision on U.S. Highway 57 South Near Maverick and Zavala Counties Claims One Life

Maverick County Sheriff Tom Schmerber reports a head-on auto collision on U.S. Highway 57 South between Eagle Pass and La Pryor, Texas near the Maverick and Zavala Counties line on Monday, February 22, 2021 at approximately 5 a.m. has claimed the life of one person.
The head-on auto collision was between a black 2020 Chevrolet Silverado Pick-Up Truck and a 2003 white Chevrolet Trailblazer SUV.
A male driver of the Chevrolet Silverado Pick-Up Truck sustained critical injuries and was airlifted to a San Antonio, Texas medical center for treatment. Unfortunately, a male driver of the Chevrolet Trailblazer SUV died from his injuries at the scene of the accident.
The tragic auto accident has temporarily closed U.S. Highway 57 South in between Maverick and Zavala counties while emergency medical services attend to people injured in the accident and law enforcement agencies investigate the accident.
Travelers between Eagle Pass and San Antonio, Texas on U.S. Highway 57 South are recommended to take Old Uvalde Road (F.M. 481) to Uvalde and U.S. Highway 90 to San Antonio.
U.S. Highway 57 South will be closed for several hours in the morning of Monday, February 22, 2021, to investigate the accident and removal of the vehicles.
