Maverick County Emergency Operation Center (EOC) Co-Director, Leopoldo “Polo” Vielma, announced on Wednesday, February 10, 2021, that a total of 1,305 second doses of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine have been received and will be administered to Maverick County residents on Saturday, February 13, 2021, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the City of Eagle Pass International Center for Trade (ICT), 3295 Bob Rogers Drive, Eagle Pass, Texas 78852.
Vielma noted that the second dose of the COVID-19 vaccine is for Maverick County residents who received their first dose on January 12 and 13, 2021 and are awaiting their second dose.
Vielma added that EOC personnel are currently calling by telephone all people who are eligible for the second dose of the COVID-19 vaccine. If one does not get notified by telephone, they should not come in for the second dose. Only those persons who have been personally contacted by EOC should attend the Saturday, February 13, second dose administration.
As of February 10, EOC has administered a total of 5,907 first doses of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine in coordination with the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS), said Vielma. EOC administered another 655 first doses on February 10 and is administering another 600 plus first dose vaccines on February 11.
COVID-19 is surging in Maverick County and all residents are encouraged to get the vaccine and follow all CDC Guidelines. As of February 10, EOC reported a total of 216 fatalities in Maverick County and 89 people hospitalized locally with COVID-19 at the only hospital in the county, Fort Duncan Regional Medical Center in Eagle Pass. However, DSHS, official COVID-19 tracker, reported a total of 260 fatalities related to COVID-19 in Maverick County as of February 10, a difference of an additional 44 fatalities than reported by EOC.
