Maverick County Commissioner Precinct 4 Roberto Ruiz announced at a press conference held on Tuesday, March 9, 2021 that the County of Maverick may receive an estimated amount of $11.5 Million in funds from President Joe Biden’s American Rescue Plan once it is approved by Congress and signed into law by Biden this week.
The United States Senate has already approved the American Rescue Plan and the U.S. House of Representatives is scheduled to vote and approve it on Wednesday, March 10, 2021, sending it to the White House for President Biden’s signature.
Ruiz cited the National Association of Counties as his source for the total estimated amount of federal funds that Maverick County would receive from the American Rescue Plan once it is approved by Congress and signed into law by President Biden.
According to the National Association of Counties, Maverick County is estimated to receive $11,490,243 once the American Rescue Plan upon approval by Congress, said Ruiz.
Ruiz recommended for Maverick County to select a Committee composed of local citizens to determine and recommend how to utilize these estimated $11.5 million in federal funds from the American Rescue Plan.
Ruiz’s recommendation has merit and should be considered by Maverick County Commissioners Court.
Local citizens should join Ruiz’s recommendation to form an independent committee composed of local citizens and request Commissioners Court to select an independent committee to determine how Maverick County should best utilize these federal funds from the American Rescue Plan.
