The highly contested City of Eagle Pass, Texas Mayoral and two City Council Places’ election kick-offs on Monday, April 19, 2021, at 8 a.m. at the Multi-Purpose Center, 480 S. Adams Street with early voting through Tuesday, April 27, 2021.
Vying for the top Mayoral leadership position are 14 months incumbent Luis E. Sifuentes, who won a Special Election on February 1, 2020 against former City Councilman Rudy Villalpando, and City Councilman Rolando Salinas, who is an accomplished attorney and partner at the law firm of Knickerbocker, Heredia, Salinas & Salinas. Salinas defeated Mayito Obregon in the February 1, 2020 Special Election.
Also hotly contested is the City Council Place 4 position between Maricarmen Perales Rangel, Leeroy Euresti, and Monica J. Cruz.
The only position unopposed is the City Council Place 2 held by Councilman Elias Diaz. Díaz won the post in a special election run-off against Elizabeth Chisum De La Garza.
An estimated 5,000 to 6,000 voters are anticipated in the City Election of May 1, 2021 due to the highly disputed and well-financed Mayoral race between Sifuentes and Salinas. At the February 1, 2020 City Special Election, a total of 4,311 voters cast ballots. A larger turnout is expected in this May 1, 2021 City Election.
All registered City of Eagle Pass voters are encouraged to come out and vote during the Early Voting period from April 19-27, 2021 at the Multi-Purpose Center in Fort Duncan Park or on Election Day on Saturday, May 1, 2021.
