The City of Eagle Pass City Officers Election for Mayor and two City Council positions is currently underway through Early Voting during April 19-27, 2021 at the Multi-Purpose Center, 480 S. Adams Street in downtown Eagle Pass.
As of Thursday, April 22, 2021, a total of 1,557 voters cast ballots in the City Officers Election, including 382 on Monday, April 19; 550 on Tuesday, April 20; 322 on Wednesday, April 21; and 303 on Thursday, April 22. The voter turnout in the first four days of Early Voting has been low, causing candidates to encourage Eagle Pass registered voters deemed to include 17,000 to come out and vote in the City Officers Election during Early Voting and/or on Election Day, Saturday, May 1 at the Multi-Purpose Center.
There are four days remaining of Early Voting as well as Election Day on Saturday, May 1. Voters may cast ballots through Early Voting on Friday, April 23, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Saturday, April 24, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.; Monday, April 26, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. (extended hours); and Tuesday, April 27, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Regular Election Day is Saturday, May 1, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the Multi-Purpose Center.
Competing for the top political position of Mayor include incumbent Luis E. Sifuentes and City Councilman Rolando Salinas. The Mayoral race is considered to be highly competitive with both candidates fielding large group of supporters. The question is how do you get these large group of supporters to come out to cast their ballot. Both candidates are implementing strategies to get the voters to come out to vote.
Vying for the City Council Place 4 position are three candidates, including Maricarmen Perales Rangel, Leeroy Euresti, and Monica J. Cruz.
Running unopposed for a four year term is City Councilman Place 2 Elias Diaz, who is guaranteed to win.
The City of Eagle Pass has implemented strict COVID-19 safety measures at the polling place at the Multi-Purpose Center to ensure voters a safe and efficient voting process.
