The joint City of Eagle Pass and Maverick County Emergency Operations Center (EOC) is considering the de-obligation of COVID-19 vaccines from the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) due to lack of demand from Maverick County citizens, announced County Judge David R. Saucedo at the COVID-19 press conference held on Thursday, April 8, 2021.
DSHS awarded the Maverick County EOC the sum of 1,200 COVID-19 vaccines per week to operate a mass vaccine site in the border county.
The Maverick County EOC has administered over 18,000 COVID-19 vaccines to date, but with multiple healthcare providers such as the United Medical Centers, Maverick County Hospital District, Fort Duncan Regional Medical Center, H.E.B. Pharmacy, Walgreen’s Pharmacy, and Walmart Pharmacy now offering COVID-19 vaccines in Maverick County the demand for vaccines at the EOC has diminished.
Saucedo stated that the Maverick County EOC is planning to reduce its weekly COVID-19 vaccine allotment of 1,200 doses to 800 to avoid the spoilage of unused vaccines.
Saucedo encouraged all residents of Maverick County who are 18 years or older may register to take the COVID-19 vaccine with the EOC at either the City of Eagle Pass or Maverick County websites.
Saucedo noted that the EOC administered a total of 1,194 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine on Thursday, April 8, 2021.
The EOC will hold another COVID-19 second dose vaccine clinic on Saturday, April 10, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the City of Eagle Pass International Center for Trade, 3295 Bob Rogers Drive, in Eagle Pass for people who took their first vaccine dose on March 3, 2021.
William Worrell, Chief Executive Officer of United Medical Centers, announced that UMC is administering another 2,000 COVID-19 vaccines per week in Maverick County. Worrell added that no prior registration is required for the UMC COVID-19 vaccine as people may register on-site.
Alma Martinez, Chief Executive Officer of the Maverick County Hospital District, noted that MCHD had received another shipment of 500 Johnson and Johnson COVID-19 single dose vaccines for patients of the MCHD. To register for an MCHD COVID-19 vaccine, please call the MCHD at (830) 757-4900 or (830) 757-4901.
Maverick County residents may also register to take the COVID-19 vaccine at one of the pharmacies of H.E.B., Walgreen’s, and Walmart through their websites.
Saucedo advised all Maverick County residents who are 18 years or older to obtain their COVID-19 vaccine with the EOC or at one of the several healthcare providers that are administering the vaccine.
