City Sports Complex Grand Opening on July 1, Receives $500K Grant for Hike and Bike Trail

Eagle Pass Mayor Rolando Salinas announced that the City of Eagle Pass Patsy Winn Sports Complex much awaited grand opening will be on Thursday, July 1, 2021 after having been rescheduled due to some playground equipment not arriving on time, completion of a maintenance building, and installation of security video cameras.
The sparkling $16 million City of Eagle Pass Patsy Winn Sports Complex will feature six baseball/softball fields, a football field, soccer fields, basketball courts, tennis and volleyball courts, a walking trail, and a water splash area.
The 124 acre City Sports Complex was made possible by a generous philanthropic donation of land from the C.C. and Patsy Winn family, estimated to be valued at $2 million or more.
On September 25, 2018, the Eagle Pass City Council approved the issuance of $32 million Certificates of Obligation (bonds) which included the $16 million for the development and construction of the Sports Complex. The City of Eagle Pass celebrated the groundbreaking ceremony for the complex on December 3, 2019 and construction has been non-stop since then to get the park open.
The City of Eagle Pass is dedicating the Sports Complex in honor of Mrs. Patsy Winn, the matriarch of the Winn family, whose philanthropic donation of the 124 acres of land made the public project possible.
Mrs. Patsy Winn and family are scheduled to attend the July 1, 2021 grand opening ceremony of the City Sports Complex.
Mayor Salinas also announced that the City of Eagle Pass had been awarded a $500,000 grant for a “Hike and Bike Trail” at the City Sports Complex by the Texas Department of Parks and Wildlife Department. Salinas noted that the “Hike and Bike Trail” will consist of a 1.7 mile trail that will circle the newly built Patsy Winn Sports Complex.
“The grant funds awarded by the Texas Department of Parks and Wildlife Department are vital to providing outdoor recreation options for our community,” said Mayor Salinas.
The City’s Patsy Winn Sports Complex will be open to the public and available for local sports leagues, teams, and citizens to play and enjoy.
The new Sports Complex is a state of the art facility designed to provide the highest quality of public recreational venues and will be the finest facility of its kind in the Texas Middle Rio Grande region. The Sports Complex will also host sports tournaments to draw tourists and business revenues to local retail businesses and hotels.
