(PRESS RELEASE) Eagle Pass―Ismael Naveja Macias, Mexican Consul in Eagle Pass and the Deputy Consul, Juan Jose Martinez De La Rosa, hosted Sul Ross State Univ. representatives at the Consulate for a ceremony to celebrate Mexico’s support of Sul Ross students.
Consul Naveja and Dr. Robert Muñoz, Vice President for Administrative Services and Chief Operating Officer at Sul Ross, signed agreements for the Institute for Mexicans Abroad (IME) through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to provide scholarship funds that benefit Sul Ross students in the Eagle Pass area who are Mexican nationals or those with close ties to Mexico.
A gracious host, the Consul spoke of the vintage typewriters he collects that were displayed in the room where he held the ceremony. He also discussed his idea that Mexican and American citizens with ties to both countries should not choose one over the other. Instead, he suggests that both cultures be embraced equally.
Muñoz said, “Receiving the support and funding for our students is important. What I appreciate even more is the passion that Consul Naveja brings to our community including passion for service and passion for supporting his fellow country men and women through collaborations with Sul Ross State University.”
