Eagle Pass Independent School District (EPISD) Superintendent Samuel Mijares announced at a press conference held on Thursday, July 29, 2021, that all students will be attending in-person classes for the new 2021-2022 academic school year with registration available now online through the District’s website portal.
The first day of classes for the new school year is Monday, August 16, 2021, added Mijares. “On August 16, we will have 100% in-person instruction. The State of Texas, at this time, has not provided resources to promote remote instruction,” said Mijares.
Mijares stated that student registration for Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten through 12th grade for the new 2021-2022 school year will be done online only through the District’s website portal, but added that all school campuses will be open on August 2 for any parents needing assistance in registering their children through the online website portal. Parents not requiring assistance may register their children online.
Students are not required to wear face masks while attending school due to Governor Greg Abbott’s Executive Order, but they are recommended on a voluntary basis. “Masks will be welcomed,” said Mijares. Parents are encouraged to teach their children how to wear their face masks and not to take them off for those choosing to voluntarily wear a face mask, although not required.
“At this time, we are encouraging everyone in our community to get vaccinated. It is very important that everyone who qualifies for a vaccine to get vaccinated. There is a clinic this Saturday, July 31, at 11 a.m. at the Mall de las Aguilas,” added Mijares.
All school campuses will have “systems in place for disinfecting and to provide a safe learning place for when students arrive on August 16,” said Mijares.
Mijares stated that all students participating in extracurricular activities such as sports and band must be attending classes in-person in order to participate.
An estimated 14,500 students are expected to attend the Eagle Pass Independent School District during the 2021-2022 school year.
New teacher in-service will be held during August 2-6, 2021 while staff development will be held from August 9-13. First day of classes is Monday, August 16.
