The deadly COVID-19 virus is afflicting people all over the world and transmitting in every nation, state, city, and community, particularly more so now with the highly contagious Delta variant.
A 37 year-old male American citizen residing in Piedras Negras, Coahuila, Mexico was infected with COVID-19 and suffering severe complications from the coronavirus that he requested to be transported by ambulance to Fort Duncan Regional Medical Center in Eagle Pass, Texas in order to receive more specialized medical care of his COVID-19 illness.
A Mexican ambulance transported the American citizen to the Eagle Pass International Bridge No. 2 and the Eagle Pass Port of Entry on Sunday, August 15, 2021 to be transferred to a City of Eagle Pass Fire Department EMS Ambulance so that he could be taken to the Fort Duncan Regional Medical Center.
Upon arriving at the Eagle Pass International Bridge No. 2, the American citizen’s medical conditions deteriorated and worsened, causing him to die from his COVID-19 complications while Eagle Pass EMS Paramedics addressed his serious medical conditions and sought to transfer him into the Eagle Pass ambulance.
The death of the American citizen at the Eagle Pass International Bridge No. 2 and Eagle Pass Port of Entry was a tragedy, but a stark reminder to everyone that COVID-19 is a deadly disease and does not respect one’s age or citizenship. COVID-19 does not discriminate on who it infects and kills in the process of transmitting itself from one person to another.
Public health experts advise for all persons to get vaccinated with one of the COVID-19 vaccines available, wear a face mask when indoor or in a large group of people when outside, maintain social distancing of at least six feet, avoid gatherings of 10 or more, use hand sanitizer regularly, wash hands with soap frequently, and avoid unnecessary travel.
