Maverick County Commissioners Court approved the appointment of Jesus Casas, CPA, as Interim County Tax Assessor-Collector at a meeting held on Monday, August 9, 2021, replacing former County Tax Assessor-Collector Isamari Sanchez Villarreal who unexpectedly retired on August 2, 2021 due to personal health issues.
Casas is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and owns his own accounting and tax practice in Eagle Pass, Texas. He was elected by county voters to the Maverick County Hospital District Board of Directors, serving as its Chairman for several years.
Casas will serve as Interim Maverick County Tax Assessor-Collector until the election of a new person at the November 2022 General Election. Casas intends to run for the County Tax Assessor-Collector position in the March 2022 Primary Election and, if he prevails in that election, advance to the November 2022 General Election. Any Maverick County citizen may also register to run for the position with either the Democratic or Republican parties in November of this year for the March 2022 Primary Election.
Since Casas is an elected public officer with the Maverick County Hospital District Board of Directors, it is unknown as of press time if he will be required to resign from that post. Stay tuned.
