Breaking News! Eagle Pass Fire Department Employee Killed in Automobile Accident on U.S. Highway 57 in Frio County

An Eagle Pass Fire Department Employee was killed on Wednesday, September 15, 2021 in an automobile accident on U.S. Highway 57 near Batesville, Texas in Frio County.
The deceased Eagle Pass Fire Department employee has been identified as 22 year-old Matthew “Matt” Fuentes. Fuentes and another individual passed away in the U.S. Highway 57 auto accident.
The auto accident is under investigation by the Texas Department of Public Safety.
The fatal auto accident caused U.S. Highway 57 to be closed for several hours to allow law enforcement and first responders investigate the accident and attend to the injured.
Eagle Pass citizens mourned the loss of Matthew “Matt” Fuentes who just a day earlier on Tuesday, September 14, 2021, was recognized by the Eagle Pass City Council for his outstanding dedication to the Eagle Pass Fire Department. At the City Council meeting, Eagle Pass Fire Chief Manuel Mello advised the City Council that Fuentes’ mother had recently passed away from COVID-19.
The tragic passing of Fuentes has shocked the members of the Eagle Pass Fire Department and City of Eagle Pass employees. The City of Eagle Pass mourns the death of Matthew “Matt” Fuentes.
