The Delta variant of COVID-19 is highly contagious and five times more transmissible than the earlier variant of COVID-19, causing hospitals in the United States to exceed their Intensive Care Unit beds availability and capacities. Texas reported 13,895 people hospitalized due to COVID-19 on August 31, 2021. Maverick County reported 21 people hospitalized with COVID-19 and eight in Intensive Care Unit with ventilators as of September 1, 2021.
According to the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS), Maverick County reported 214 active confirmed positive cases and another 257 probable cases, 11,759 confirmed positive cases overall, and 370 fatalities (two most recent fatalities not counted yet by DSHS) as of September 1, 2021.
While Texas Governor Gregg Abbott and the Republican Party are gloating over their conservative legislative victories, Texans are being infected with the Delta variant of COVID-19 and dying in record numbers including 17,033 new confirmed positive cases, another 4,478 probable cases, and 329 new fatalities as of September 1, 2021, according to DSHS. Texas reported over 3,800 fatalities from COVID-19 during August 2021.
The cumulative total in Texas since March 2020 has increased to an astronomical 55,955 fatalities, 3,039,912 confirmed positive cases, and another 572,078 probable cases as of September 1, 2021, according to DSHS.
Maverick County residents are highly encouraged to get vaccinated and wear face masks, practice social distancing of six feet or more, use hand sanitizer, wash hands regularly, avoid gatherings of 10 or more people, and limit travel to essential matters and stay home if at all possible.
Texas public schools are experiencing an exponential growth of COVID-19 infections with students, teachers, and staff testing confirmed positive. Many public schools districts are closing down for a week or two to allow for sanitation of school facilities and quarantining of students and staff. The Eagle Pass Independent School District is no exception as many students, teachers, and staff are testing positive for COVID-19.
