Maverick County Jury Convicts Woman for Theft

On September 15, 2021, a Maverick County Jury reached a verdict of guilt in the case against a Defendant for the offense of Theft in an amount of over $2,500.00 but less than $30,000.00. Prosecuting the case for the State of Texas was Jaime “AJ” Iracheta and Hugo Zapata with the assistance of Amanda Riojas and District Attorney, Roberto Serna. After the Defendant was found guilty the case was then set for sentencing before the Court. The Office of the District attorney would like to recognize the hard work and dedication of the Maverick County Sheriff’s Office, specifically, Eagle Pass Police Officer Joe Rivera, and Maverick County Sheriff Deputies Martin Cantu and Javier Gutierrez. The State would also like to thank the hard work and dedication of the D.A. investigators. The Office of the District Attorney is committed to the honest and fair administration of justice and fully respects and accepts the verdict of there Maverick County Jury in finding the Defendant guilty as charged in the indictment. This offense occurred at the local H-E-B on February 18, 2020, in which a purse was stolen containing more than $5,500.00 in cash. Justice has been served to the victim and a strong message has been sent that theft will not be tolerated in Maverick County and cases will be tried by a jury even in the midst of a pandemic in order to ensure the protection of our Maverick County residents.
