The COVID-19 pandemic interrupted the scheduling of the football rivalry between the Eagle Pass Winn Mavericks and Eagle Pass Eagles in a shortened 2020 season, but both teams renewed their cross-town rivalry in 2021 with the 15th meeting of the rivalry series scheduled on Friday, September 10, 2021 at 7 p.m. at the Eagle Pass Independent School District Cozel Foster-Veterans Memorial Stadium in Eagle Pass, Texas.
Football prognosticators predict the 15th meeting of the rivalry will be another hard-fought classic game with both teams competing for the bragging rights for a year. The Winn Mavericks are the home team this year and will be seeking its first victory of the rivalry series while the Eagle Pass Eagles will seek to continue its domination of the rivalry. The Eagles hold a 14-0 lead in the series. But every year is a new opportunity for both teams to make their claims.

Eagle Pass Independent School District reports the 15th meeting of the series is already sold out since Wednesday, September 8, 2021, with an estimated 8,500 people expected to attend the game.
Eagle Pass and Maverick County football aficionados affectionately call the rivalry between the Mavericks and the Eagles as the battle for the mythical City Championship while others call it “The Menudo Bowl.” Both teams prefer to just call it a rivalry game.
The Eagle Pass Business Journal wishes both teams the best of luck in the 15th meeting of the rivalry series and may the best team win. Go Mavericks! Go Eagles!
