293rd Judicial District Attorney Roberto Serna announced that the Office of the District Attorney, serving Maverick, Dimmit, and Zavala Counties, has remained active and open during the COVID-19 pandemic from January 1, 2020 to the present with the prosecution of criminal cases, including the presentment of cases to grand juries in all three counties.
Serna noted that despite several members within the 293rd District Attorney’s Office were hit by COVID-19, the Office of the District Attorney remained open under appropriate COVID-19 protocols and guidelines. “The Office never quit nor did law enforcement and first responders,” said Serna.
Consequently, the 293rd District Attorney’s Office returned a total of 271 criminal indictments within the three counties, including 181 indictments in Maverick County, 48 indictments in Dimmit County, and 42 indictments in Zavala County.
Serna highlighted the District Attorney’s Office is scheduled to hold grand jury sessions in Maverick, Dimmit, and Zavala Counties on October 22, 2021. Serna noted that “this is a result of the tremendous efforts by the Office of the District Attorney, law enforcement, and first responders during these most difficult times.”
