The Delta variant of coronavirus claimed the lives of 19 Maverick County citizens during the month of September 2021, most were unvaccinated, and 507 confirmed positive cases were reported, according to the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS).
Maverick County like the State of Texas and the United States has been hit extremely hard by the Delta variant, particularly among people who were unvaccinated.
As of September 30, 2021, Maverick County cumulative total of fatalities from COVID-19 increased to 390, just 10 shy of 400, 12,264 confirmed positive cases, another 273 probable cases, 100 active confirmed positive cases, and 12,012 recovered people.
The State of Texas under Governor Gregg Abbott is the second state in the nation with the most number of confirmed positive cases and fatalities, only California has more, with a cumulative total of 63,976 fatalities from COVID-19, 3,377,737 confirmed positive cases, and another 669,195 probable cases, according to DSHS.
On September 30, 2021 alone, Texas reported 350 fatalities from COVID-19, 8,285 new confirmed positive cases, another 1,962 probable cases, and 9,005 hospitalized people with coronavirus.
The Delta variant has spread like a wildflower among Texans with 1 in 7 have been infected with the highly transmissible coronavirus. Over 4 million confirmed and probable cases have been reported in Texas. Over 9,000 Texans died from COVID-19 alone in August 2021 and nearly 40% of the confirmed positive cases in September 2021 were people under 60 years old.
Nearly 700,000 Americans have died from COVID-19 as of September 30, 2021, becoming the deadliest virus in the history of the country, surpassing the Influenza Pandemic of 1918-1919 which claimed 675,000 people.
American public health experts are stunned that so many Americans have lost their lives from COVID-19 since the United States is the country with the most vaccines available in the world. During the summer of 2021 until now, the Delta variant of the coronavirus has rampantly spread and infected among the unvaccinated, although some vaccinated people have been infected too.
The impact of the near 700,000 deaths among Americans has affected every family in one way or another. Every American now know of someone who died from COVID-19. Families have been torn as children are left without a parent, or in some occasions without both parents, family goals and plans left unfulfilled, the economy has been shattered and rebounded, and the politicization of the vaccine and face masks has divided a strong nation and made enemies among neighbors, schools, and communities.
