Maverick County to Celebrate 150th Anniversary, County Buildings Named for Past Distinguished Public Servants

Maverick County Judge David R. Saucedo announced on October 7, 2021, that Maverick County will celebrate its 150th Anniversary later this year to commemorate its organization in 1871 by the Texas legislature. Maverick County was initially created in 1856 but did not get organized until 1871 and was named for Samuel Maverick, cattleman and state legislator from San Antonio, Bexar County, Texas.
County Judge Saucedo added that several county buildings, including the historic and current county courthouses, will be named after county public servants who have made a significant impact in the community.
The historic Maverick County Courthouse, located at 501 E. Main Street in downtown Eagle Pass, Texas, will be named after former County Judge Roberto Bibb while the current county courthouse, located at 500 Quarry Street, will be named after former County Judge Ramon Saucedo, father of current County Judge David R. Saucedo.
The Maverick County Tax Office is going to be named after former County Tax-Assessor Collector Esteban Luna and former County Treasurer Manuel Reyes.
The still under construction County Amphitheater at the Maverick County Lake will be named in honor of all Maverick County Veterans, which is scheduled to be completed before the end of 2021.
County Judge Saucedo noted that in the immediate future he will announce details concerning the 150th Anniversary events and festivities to the public.
