2022 Maverick County Jr. Livestock Show Underway from January 14-22

The highly anticipated 2022 Maverick County Jr. Livestock Show and Sale (MCJLS) kicks-off on Friday, January 14, 2022 with the Eighth Annual Jesus “Chuy” Sanchez Memorial Cowboy Breakfast at 7 a.m. at the Zan Mathies Showbarn in the Maverick County Lake in Eagle Pass, Texas and continues through Saturday, January 22, 2022 with the Sale of the Exhibitors’ animals at 11 a.m. also at the Zan Mathies Show Barn and the big Western Dance at 8 p.m. at the City of Eagle Pass International Center for Trade.
Close to one thousand local individuals, entrepreneurs, public officials, students, and supporters are expected to attend the Eighth Annual Jesus “Chuy” Memorial Cowboy Breakfast on Friday, January 14, at 7 a.m. at the Zan Mathies Show Barn, announced Maverick County Jr. Livestock Show Association President Armando De La Cruz.
The heralded 2022 Maverick County Jr. Livestock Show Western Queen Pageant will be held on Saturday, January 15, at 3 P.M. at the Zan Mathies Show Barn with many young ladies competing for the coveted Miss MCJLS Western Queen title in different age-categories. Admission is $5 advance sale tickets and $10 at the door. Get your tickets early for the MCJLS Western Queen Pageant.
The youth exhibitors from 4-H Club and Future Farmers of America (FFA) begin moving-in their show animals to the Zan Mathies Show Barn on Monday, January 17, at 9 a.m. with Market Rabbits and Meat Pens, Judging of Market Rabbits and Meat Pens, and selection of the Champion Market Rabbit and Meat Pen, as well as the Market Broilers and Broiler Pens at 2 p.m. followed by the selection of the Champion Market Broiler and Broiler Pen.
On Tuesday, January 18, the MCJLS continues with the move-in, weighing, and sifting of Market Goats at 9 a.m., followed by the Judging of Young Exhibitor Projects, the Judging of Out of County and Breeding Goats at 1 p.m., and the Judging of Market Goats and Market Goat Showmanship Contest and Selection of the Market Goat Champion at 2 p.m. All activities are at the Zan Mathies Show Barn.
On Wednesday, January 19, the MCJLS continues with the move-in, weighing, and sifting of Market Lambs at 9 a.m. followed by the Judging of the Young Exhibitor Projects, and the Judging of Out of County and Breeding Sheep at 1 p.m. and the Judging of the Market Lambs, Selection of the Market Lamb Showmanship and Champion Lamb at 2 p.m. All activities are at the Zan Mathies Show Barn.
On Thursday, January 20, the MCJLS continues with the move-in, weighing, and sifting of Market Swine at 9 a.m. followed by the Judging of Young Exhibitors, and the Judging of Out of County and Breeding Swine at 1 p.m., and the Judging of Market Swine, Selection of Market Swine Showmanship and Market Hog Champion at 2 p.m. All activities are at the Zan Mathies Showbarn.
On Friday, January 21, the MCJLS continues with the move-in, weighing, and sifting of of Market Steers at 9 a.m. followed by the Judging of Out of County and Breeding Cattle, and the Judging of Market Steer, Selection of the Market Steer Showmanship and Market Steer Champion at 2 p.m. All activities are at the Zan Mathies Show Barn.
On Saturday, January 22, the MCJLS concludes with a flurry of activities including the 2022 MCJLS Dedication and Recognition of the 2021 MCJLS Top Ten Buyers at 11 a.m. and the 2022 MCJLS Sale at 11:30 a.m. at the Zan Mathies Show Barn until the last animal is sold.
The 2022 MCJLS caps off the festivities with the traditional Western Dance at 8 pm. at the Eagle Pass International Center for Trade with live music until the last cow comes home. Admission to the Western Dance is $10 for Exhibitors, $20 advance sale, and $30 at the door. All proceeds benefit the youth of Maverick County and the MCJLS.
De La Cruz stated that there will be many local and out of town vendors offering western wear, jewelry, accessories, and miscellaneous goods during the 2022 MCJLS as well a food and refreshment concession stand during the entire show.
De La Cruz invites all local and out of town entrepreneurs, businesses, ranchers, and supporters to register to become a Buyer at the 2022 MCJLS Sale on Saturday, January 22, before the sale or by contacting the MCJLS at the Zan Mathies Show Barn during the week long festivities.
