Eagle Pass C. C. Winn High School Mavericks Head Boys Basketball Coach Paulo Valero announced the signing of the first Mavericks Basketball Program’s player, Ryan Rodriguez, to a national letter of intent to play collegiate basketball, a milestone for the Mavericks Basketball Program.
Ryan Rodriguez signed his national letter of intent to play collegiate basketball with the Jarvis Christian University Bulldogs of Hawkins, Texas on Thursday, May 19, 2022 at a ceremony held at the Winn High School gymnasium in Eagle Pass, Texas surrounded by Head Coach Paulo Valero, his parents, family, teammates, friends, and teachers.
Ryan Rodriguez is the son of Lily Castillo and Alfred Rodriguez of Eagle Pass. Coach Valero stated Rodriguez developed into a collegiate basketball player during his four years at Winn High School, particularly the past two years where he dedicated himself to improving his shooting and defensive skills and hitting the weight training program.
Coach Valero noted that Rodriguez plays shooting guard and hit a last second game winner shot against San Antonio Southside Cardinals this year and had a career best performance against San Antonio Southwest Legacy Titans, earning District 28-5A All-District Honorable Mention recognition. In his junior year (2021), Rodriguez was named by the District 28-5A head basketball coaches as the Newcomer of the Year Award.
Coach Valero added that Rodriguez’s signing is a “historic” milestone for the Mavericks Basketball Program and will hopefully open more opportunities for current and future Mavericks players to play in college. “Ryan has worked extremely hard and dedicated himself to improving his basketball game skills and will definitely contribute to the Jarvis Christian University Bulldogs program,” said Valero.
The Eagle Pass Business Journal congratulates Ryan Rodriguez, his parents, coaches, teammates, and teachers on his historic signing of a national letter of intent with the Jarvis Christian University Bulldogs and wishes him success in his athletic and academic endeavors.
