Eagle Pass Cal Ripken Baseball Majors/70 All-Stars Crush Fairhaven-Acushnet, Maine 6-2 in Game 3 of Pool Play at Cal Ripken World Series, Remain Undefeated 3-0

The amazing Eagle Pass Cal Ripken Baseball Majors/70 All-Stars, representing Southwest United States, crushed the New England Regional Champions from Fairhaven-Acushnet, Maine 6-2 in Game 3 of Pool B play on Sunday, August 7, 2022, at the Cal Ripken Baseball Majors/70 World Series in Branson, Missouri, remaining undefeated 3-0 in Pool B play and qualifying for Bracket play this week with one pool game remaining on Tuesday, August 9, 2022 at 7 p.m. against the Ohio Valley Regional Champions from Crown Point, Indiana.
The Eagle Pass Cal Ripken Baseball All-Stars summoned Izzaiah Chavarria to the pitcher’s mound for game three against New England.
Eagle Pass jumped to an early lead in the first inning, scoring one run as lead-off hitter David Hernandez received a base on balls and advanced to second base on a passed ball, followed by an RBI double ripped by Jay Jacquez to score Hernandez, Jacquez was thrown out attempting to steal home, the next batter struck out, Caleb Hernandez got on base on a walk, and the next batter flied out.
Eagle Pass tallied one run in the third inning to take a 2-0 lead as Robert Fernandez received a base on balls but was thrown out attempting to steal third base, Jaime Garcia drew a walk with one out, David Hernandez flied out to left field allowing Garcia to tag up to second base, Jay Jacquez belted an RBI double to left field to score Garcia, and the next batter grounded out.
Eagle Pass exploded for four runs in the fourth inning to take a 6-0 lead as Caleb Hernandez received a base on balls, Mathan Cruz stroked an RBI single to left field to score Hernandez, Cruz advanced to second base on a wild pitch, the next hitter struck out swinging, the next hitter grounded out, Izzaiah Chavarria drew a walk with two outs, Robert Fernandez received a free pass with a walk loading the bases, Jaime Garcia slammed a two RBI double to left field scoring Cruz and Chavarria, Fernandez scored on a balk by the pitcher, and the next batter flied out to end the inning.
New England managed to tally two runs in the fifth inning to narrow the score 6-2 on two base hits, one walk, and one hit by pitch before Izaiah Chavarria shut them down.
Eagle Pass brought David Hernandez in relief of Chavarria in the final inning to save the game while Chavarria earned the win.
Leading the Eagle Pass offense was Jay Jacquez who batted 2 for 3 with two doubles and two RBI, Mathan Cruz went 1 for 2 with a single and scored a run, and Jaime Garcia was 1 for 1 with a double and two RBI.
Eagle Pass starting pitcher Izaiah Chavarria was named the Player of the Game.
With the win over New England, Eagle Pass leads Pool B with a 3-0 record and one pool game remaining on Tuesday, August 9, at 7 pm against the Ohio Valley Regional Champions from Crown Point, Indiana. Eagle Pass, however, has qualified for Bracket Play this week as the two top teams in each pool advance against other top two pool teams.
