Eagle Pass Mayor Rolando Salinas, Jr. and Maverick County Judge David R. Saucedo announced at a joint press conference held on Thursday, August 11, 2022 at City Council Chambers the development of a new $13 million “Home 2 Suites” Hotel in the City of Eagle Pass, Texas to be located at the intersection of U. S. Highway 277 and Bob Rogers Drive near the City of Eagle Pass Patsy Winn Sport Complex, Southwest Texas Junior College and Sul Ross State University-Rio Grande College campuses, City of Eagle Pass International Center for Trade, and Fort Duncan Regional Medical Center.
The new Home 2 Suites Hotel will be 17,000 square feet with 115 hotel rooms built on a property approximately larger than three acres and is scheduled to employ more than 25 people in the community. The hotel will be “Green-friendly” and have studio-style rooms, with small kitchenette and living rooms, an outdoor swimming pool, a 1,000 square foot conference space, fitness room, a laundry facility, and modern amenities, Vipal Patel, Owner, said. The studio-style rooms will accommodate extended stays by guests.
The new Home 2 Suites Hotel is being developed by Mr. and Mrs. Vipal Patel who have been operating another hotel in Eagle Pass since 2007. Mr. Patel stated the new Home 2 Suites Hotel is their second hotel investment in Eagle Pass. Mr. Patel added this is the second time they have looked at this site location for development of a new hotel, the first being in 2008 but due to an economic recession the plans were suspended. He added they are pleased to have a second opportunity to develop a new hotel at this location site and the staff is now up to 20 people and expect it to double once the new hotel opens.
Eagle Pass Mayor Rolando Salinas, Jr. stated this new $13 million hotel investment is very important and significant to the City of Eagle Pass. Salinas added that the City of Eagle Pass and Maverick County worked together in providing tax abatements to the hotel project to recruit the new investment to the community.
County Judge David R. Saucedo stated this new Home 2 Suites Hotel is a welcome addition to the community and one of three hotels to be developed inside the city limits of Eagle Pass with each having over 100 rooms in the immediate future. Saucedo noted the City and County collaborated with the Eagle Pass Independent School District and the Eagle Pass Water Works System together with the hotel investment group to bring the project to fruition.
City of Eagle Pass Economic Development Department Director Arturo Marquez and Maverick County Economic Development Department assisted with the negotiations of the new tax abatement agreements as well as each entities legal counsel.
Eagle Pass and Maverick County currently have a shortage of hotel-motel rooms in the community to satisfy the growing demand for rooms from prospective travelers, guests, conventions, businesses, governmental entities, sports events, and families.
The announcement of the first of three new hotel investment projects to be built in the City of Eagle Pass is a much welcomed development for the local economy and employment.
