2023 Maverick County Jr. Livestock Show Piggy Grams Fundraiser Raises Record $20,217

The 16 school campuses and the District Service Center of the Eagle Pass Independent School District combined raised a record $20,217 in the 2023 Maverick County Junior Livestock Show Piggy Grams Fundraiser Competition, shattering the previous record by over $8,000, announced Daniella M. Byrne, Public Information Officer of the Eagle Pass Independent School District, on Thursday, January 19, 2023.
The local school campus raising the most money in the form of Piggy Grams was Eagle Pass Junior High School with a total of $3,827, garnering the overall sweepstakes award in the 2023 MCJLS Piggy Grams Fundraising Competition award ceremony held January 19.
Rounding up the Secondary School Piggy Grams Fundraising Competition category were Memorial Junior High with $1,628 and Winn High School with $1,015.
In the Elementary School Category, Seco Mines Elementary earned First Place with $1,669, Liberty Elementary was second with $1,190, and Graves Elementary was third with $1,000.
In the Early Childhood category, Early Childhood Center (ECC) garnered First Place with $2,600, Kennedy Hall was second with $2,400, and Language Development Center (LDC) was third with $1,221.
All proceeds raised in the 2023 MCJLS Piggy Grams Fundraising Competition will go towards the amazing Maverick County 4-H and FFA members who exhibited an animal in this year’s livestock show and sale, Byrne said.
The MCJLS Association presented a special plaque of recognition to the Eagle Pass Independent School District for their record $20,217 Piggy Grams fundraising contribution to the 2023 edition of the annual livestock show, which was accepted by EPISD Superintendent Samuel Mijares, EPISD Board of Trustee Hilda Martinez-Caballero, and EPISD Deputy Superintendent John Cox.
“We appreciate all the hard work by all the Eagle Pass Independent School District students, teachers, staff, administrators, and parents in participating and raising a record $20,217 in Piggy Grams for our student exhibitors in the 2023 MCJLS,” Roberto Martinez, President of the MCJLS, said.
