2023 Maverick County Jr. Livestock Show Winners Announced

The 2023 Maverick County Junior Livestock Show and Sale kicked-off on Tuesday, January 17, 2023 and runs through Saturday, January 21, 2023 with the culmination of the coveted Auction Sale of all show animals at 11 a.m. at the Zan Matthies Show Barn at the Maverick County Lake in Eagle Pass, Texas.
As of press time, the young ladies (exhibitors) have swept most of the top prizes in all categories reported to the Eagle Pass Business Journal with only the Market Steer category remaining to be decided on Friday, January 20, 2023.
In the Market Rabbits Division, Single Fryers Category, Carilyn Cardenas won Grand Champion while sister, Caitlyn Cardenas, won Reserve Champion.
In the Market Rabbits Division, Meat Pen Category, Caitlyn Cardenas took top honors with Grand Champion while sister, Carilyn Cardenas, nabbed Reserve Champion honors.
For Market Goats Division, Javier Molina garnered the Grand Champion award while Kael Ruiz earned the Reserve Champion honors.
In the Market Lambs Division, Brylyn Wall captured the Grand Champion award while Felix Samaniego nabbed the Reserve Champion honors.
For the Market Swine Division, Gabriella Galvan took top honors with Grand Champion while Ximena Castillo garnered the Reserve Champion award.
Although the Market Broiler and Broiler Pen Categories competed on Tuesday, January 17, the final results were not available as of press time.
The public is cordially invited to attend the 2023 MCJLS and Sale during the two remaining days, Friday, January 20, and Saturday, January 21, at the Zan Matthies Show Barn at the Maverick County Lake in Eagle Pass, Texas. Admission is totally free/gratis and open to the public. Bring the whole family and support the Maverick County 4-H and FFA members.
The 2023 MCJLS highlight is the Saturday, January 21, Auction Sale of all the show animals to the highest bidder starting at 11 a.m. at the Zan Matthies Show Barn at the Maverick County Lake.
The 2023 MCJLS concludes with a Western Dance with live music on Saturday, January 21, starting at 8 p.m. at the City of Eagle Pass International Center for Trade, 3295 Bob Rogers Drive, in Eagle Pass, Texas with a cover/admission charge. The Western Dance will feature the Dee Brown Band from San Antonio, Texas and is open to the public upon payment of the admission/cover charge.
