Eagle Pass Police Department Police Chief Federico Garza announced at a press conference held on Tuesday, February 7, 2023, at the Eagle Pass Public Safety Headquarters that a body of a deceased woman was discovered at 9:36 a.m. on February 7 in northern Maverick County, Texas near Quemado believed to be that of the Eagle Pass Woman reported missing since January 31, 2023.
Garza stated that the case has now turned into a murder case and that the primary suspect, Jesus Vasquez, age 34, has been charged with murder and was arrested in Medina County, Texas on February 7, 2023 while traveling out of town in the direction of San Antonio.
Previously, Vasquez was arrested for the unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and bonded out on a $35,000 bond. Now, homicide charges have been filed against him, leading to his arrest today in Medina County. An extradition hearing will be held to return him to Maverick County to face the homicide charges and appear before a Magistrate or District Judge for extradition and bond hearings.
A Maverick County Justice of the Peace was summoned to the scene of the grisly discovery of the female body and declared the woman deceased and ordered an autopsy be performed according to Texas law. The autopsy will be performed at the Webb County Coroner’s Office in Laredo, Texas.
The family of Guardado were notified of the discovery of the deceased body and identified her as their daughter/sister, Evelyn Guardado.
Garza expressed his gratitude to the multiple law enforcement agencies who have been collaborating in the investigation of Evelyn Guardado, age 24, including, but not limited to, the Maverick County Sheriff’s Department, U. S. Department of Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), FBI, U. S. Border Patrol, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), and others.
The case remains under investigation. Garza requested anyone having any information regarding this case to please contact the Eagle Pass Police Department at (830) 773-9044.
