The City of Eagle Pass Art and Culture Center held the grand opening of the exclusive “Selena Forever” Exhibit, a collection of photographs of the iconic American and Tejano music recording artist Selena Quintanilla-Perez by John Dyer, on Thursday, March 2, 2023, in Eagle Pass, Texas.
Eagle Pass Mayor Rolando Salinas, Jr. welcomed the guests and officially opened the “Selena Forever” Exhibit and thanked the Eagle Pass Art and Culture Center past and present staff members in obtaining the exhibit come to our community. Mayor Salinas also thanked and praised the Eagle Pass C. C. Winn High School Mariachi Toro Azabache for performing at the grand opening ceremony of the exhibit.
The “Selena Forever” Exhibit features nine studio photographs of Selena Quintanilla taken by professional photographer, John Dyer of San Antonio, Texas, which are on permanent display at the McNay Art Museum in San Antonio.
In 1992, the young and rising music legend, Selena, visited John Dyer for a photo shoot at his studio in San Antonio and together shot some of the more memorable photos taken of the Grammy Award-winning artist. These photographs taken in 1992 were for a cover shoot for Mas Magazine.
In just three short years later, Selena Quintanilla rose to become an international music icon with unlimited potential. In 1995, Texas Monthly hired John Dyer to do a front page cover shoot of the sensational music singer, Selena, and they met at the historic Majestic Theater in San Antonio for the photo shoot. Once again, Selena and Dyer clicked and took more memorable photographs of the music siren.
Tragically, between the 1995 photo shoot at the Majestic Theater and the publication of the Texas Monthly front page cover, Selena was shot and killed in Corpus Christi, Texas, shocking the world and her fans beyond belief. The John Dyer photographs of Selena are extraordinary, beautiful, and captures the genuineness of the young Selena. Dyer vividly recalls the infectious smile and laugh of Selena and her burst of energy during the two photo shoots.
The Selena Forever Exhibit will be on display at the Eagle Pass Art and Culture Center, located at 364 Main Street, in downtown Eagle Pass, Texas for three months. The Eagle Pass Art and Culture Center is open Tuesday through Saturday from 12 Noon to 8:30 p.m. Admission to the Selena Forever Exhibit is free and open to the public.
