Monica J. Cruz and Aaron Valdez to Face-Off in a Run-Off Election on June 7, 2025; Elias Diaz Re-Elected to City Council Place 2; and Jessica Rey Ramon Elected to City Council Place 4

The City of Eagle Pass, Texas City Council Election of May 3, 2025 unofficial results were announced by Election Judge Enriqueta V. Collett on Saturday, May 3, 2025 on the front steps of the Maverick County Courthouse in Eagle Pass, Texas. The election results are unofficial until they are canvassed and approved by the Eagle Pass City Council a their next meeting.
The Mayoral race was extremely close between City Councilwoman Monica J. Cruz and Maverick County Hospital District Chairman of the Board Aaron Valdez with Valdez receiving 1,853 votes (41.13 percent), Cruz obtained 1,760 votes (39.07 percent), and Jesus Casas garnered 892 votes (19.80 percent). Since neither of the three candidates received a majority of the votes cast for Mayor, the top two vote getters Aaron Valdez and Monica J. Cruz will square off in a run-off election on June 7, 2025 to determine who the new Mayor of Eagle Pass. Casas is eliminated from contention.
For City Council Place 2, City Councilman Elias Diaz trounced challenger Jorge Sierra with 2,365 votes (53.68 percent) compared to Sierra’s 2,041 (46.32 percent) in a tight race. However, Diaz obtained a majority vote of 53.68 percent to win re-election to a second four year term.
In the City Council Place 4 race, local teacher Jessica Rey Ramon edged out a slim majority victory over challengers Alberto Rodriguez and Hanson Uy Tesy. Ramon received a total of 2,204 votes (50.06 percent), Rodriguez obtained 1,618 votes (36.75 percent), and Uy Tesy garnered 581 votes (13.20 percent). Ramon’s slim 50.06 percent of the votes elects her to the City Council Place 4 seat without facing a run-off against Rodriguez.
A total of 4,536 registered voters within the City of Eagle Pass, Texas cast their ballots out of a total of 18,667 registered voters ( 24.29 percent). Thus, about one in four registered Eagle Pass voters participated in the May 3, 2025 City Council Election.
All election results are unofficial until canvassed and approved by the Eagle Pass City Council at their next meeting.
