C. C. Winn High School Spirit Ambassadors Raise Awareness for Childhood Cancer

Eagle Pass C. C. Winn High School Spirit Ambassadors are helping bring attention to Childhood Cancer Awareness Month by spreading an important message of support, hope and remembrance throughout the community.

September is recognized as National Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, a time dedicated to increasing awareness of pediatric cancer and honoring the children and families whose lives have been impacted by the disease.

During the past week, EPISD Spirit Ambassador Kevin Sugaki helped distribute gold ribbons as a way of showing support for the fight against childhood cancer and encouraging others to become more aware of the challenges faced by young cancer patients and their families.

The gold ribbon is recognized internationally as the symbol of childhood cancer awareness.

Throughout September, individuals, schools, organizations and communities wear gold or display gold ribbons to honor children currently battling cancer, celebrate survivors and remember those who lost their lives to the disease.

Childhood Cancer Awareness Month also serves as an opportunity to educate the public about the importance of continued research, improved treatments and support services for children and their families. A childhood cancer diagnosis can affect an entire family, making community encouragement and awareness an important part of showing families that they are not alone in their fight.

Through efforts such as distributing gold ribbons, the CC Winn High School Spirit Ambassadors are helping turn awareness into a visible community message.

For the month of September, that message is simple but powerful — wear gold, spread awareness and stand alongside the children and families fighting childhood cancer.
